As we were asked to base our concept on an existing illustration with a digital river I created a digital waterfall instead and added in an element of danger by putting the main character high up on a remote control representing a diving tower. I wanted to convey the feeling that the person might fall and dive backwards into the waterfall but also a kind of tranquility and unableness to move because of the flood of information. Additionally I placed some little icons in the background to represent different digital elements like "play", "on", "like",... For the second illustration I used the elements of the digital waterfall as base and added in the womans shadow as if she had now jumped into the waterfall.
Digital Binge
The goal of this exercise for School of Motions course "Illustration for Motion" was to create two illustrations for a special report about putting limits on binge watching shows in a way that engages a younger demographic, based on an existing concept and illustration that the fictional company "Me & You" already uses for web and print. They wanted to reach the 13-24 year old market by expanding to platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.

Design process: from sketch to finished illustration
Style
The style I chose for my illustrations is playful and youthful to reach a wider base. I went for a very "vectory" look in contrast to the more rounded human figure. Additionally I used some dotted elements mainly for shading and lots of glow for the background. Even though the colours are very bright and joyful I wanted to convey be a feeling of insecurity and risk. The font I chose for the title card should support the feeling of water.

Styleframes
Below you can find the two finished frames: one key illustration and one title card to show the negative impact of binge watching.
