Camp Cloakwood

This is my final project for School of Motion's course "Illustration for Motion". The goal was to create a concept and style for a 30 second promotional video in 16:9 format for the Annual Wizards and Witches Mountain Retreat, hosted by Camp Cloakwood. It is a fictional overnight camp environment for adults to indulge in their most exciting childhood fantasies.

Concept/Animation & Storyboard

I imagine this promotional video to evoke an eerie, magical and lighthearted mood and focus on the aspects and activities that make Camp Cloakwood special. The story will be told with the help of a crystal ball, a magical element which serves as gateway to Camp Cloakwood. In the end it will tie us back to reality as it reappers as a snowglobe which could possibly be bought in the camp's giftshop. Throughout the piece there will be clever transitions and a little mischief mixed in too. All of the characters and surroundings will be brought to life through hand-drawn cel animation which will add to the tactile feeling of the design, animated energetically in Adobe After Effects.

Style & Colour Blocking

There will be lots of texture mixed in with a bit of linework, high contrasts in light and darkness and size too, dynamic compositions and a muted palette with pops of colour. Fantastical creatures and magical elements will be used to convey the magical and exciting feeling of Camp Cloakwood. Our main characters – a witch and wizard – will be shown a few times throughout the video.
